Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
ST. HELENS, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon judge says a Washington man
accused of gunning down the Rainier, Ore., police chief a year ago
can aid in his own defense and has been “gaming the system.”
Yesterday’s ruling means the criminal case against 22-year-old
Daniel Butts of Kalama can move forward. The judge listened to
testimony from mental health professionals before reaching the
decision.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Gov. John Kitzhaber has thrown his support
behind legislation intended to clear up uncertainty surrounding the
Oregon tax rules that apply to Facebook. The social media giant has
feared that outdated laws might lead to an unexpectedly high tax
bill at a data center in Prineville, where local officials promised
tax breaks.

ONTARIO, Ore. (AP) – An inmate serving time for robbing a
Portland check-cashing store and severely beating a clerk has been
found unresponsive in his cell at the Snake River Correctional
Institution in Ontario. An Oregon Corrections Department
spokeswoman wouldn’t say what might have happened to him and said
she didn’t know his condition.

CANNON BEACH, Ore. (AP) – Oregonians who share bits of their
sandwiches with the gulls along the Oregon coast would be rule
breakers under regulations the state Department of Parks and
Recreation is considering. New rules would prohibit feeding
wildlife to protect animals from food that’s bad for them or makes
them dependent.
