Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Seventy-nine inmates died in Oregon prisons
in the past two years, and the Department of Corrections said
nothing to the public about all but one of them. The Statesman
Journal compiled the information from internal prison reports
obtained through public records law, court filings and other
documents. The only news release was for Shelly Resnick who died in
her cell in May at the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in
Wilsonville. A prison spokeswoman says the death was reported
because of media attention to her case.

ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) – A man is wounded after a shootout with
police at motel last evening in Astoria. The suspect fled and was
stopped about eight miles away after a chase on Highway 26. He’s
being treated for gunshot wounds at Columbia Memorial Hospital in
Astoria. An officer suffered minor injuries in the incident.

OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – Clackamas County deputies are
investigating a shooting near Milwaukie as a possible
murder-attempted suicide. The Oregonian reports deputies responding
to a call last night from a mobile home park found one person is
dead and another wounded. The surviving victim is in a hospital
with a gunshot wound.

NEWPORT, Ore. (AP) – The Lincoln County sheriff’s office says a
driver fleeing deputies sped through Depoe Bay, Lincoln Beach,
Gleneden Beach and Salishan reaching speeds at times of more than
100 miles per hour. The chase ended last night when the driver
crashed into a guardrail on Highway 101 near Kernville.
