Here is the latest Washington, Oregon and Alaska sports news from
The Associated Press

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Terrence Ross had 21 points and 13
rebounds on Sunday to lead Washington to a 75-72 win over Oregon
State. C.J. Wilcox added 17 points for the Huskies, who went back
into a tie for first place in the Pac-12 with California, which won
at UCLA on Saturday. Jared Cunningham had 23 points and seven
rebounds for Oregon State. Washington took the lead for good on
Abdul Gaddy’s 3-pointer with 4:58 left.

PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) – Spring training is officially under way
with Seattle holding its first workout in Arizona, and the team’s
newest import from Japan got plenty of attention. Right-hander
Hisashi Iwakuma (hih-SAH-shee EE-wah-KOO-mah) did a small amount of
running and a little defensive work, calling yesterday’s practice
easier than what he’s used to in the early days of training in
Japan. Seattle and Iwakuma agreed to a one-year, $1.5 million
contract last month, plus a little over $3 million in incentives.

BEAVERTON, Ore. (AP) – Boston Red Sox slugger Jacoby Ellsbury
and World Cup soccer star Megan Rapinoe were big winners at the
Oregon Sports Awards last night. Ellsbury, the former Madras High
and Oregon State standout, won the Harry Glickman Award for male
professional athlete of the year, while Rapinoe was the Glickman
female award winner. The event, once known as the Hayward Awards
and now in its 60th year, was held on the Nike World Campus in
Beaverton, Ore.

AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. (AP) – Christina Cruz and Queen Underwood
both devoted their lives to boxing several years before women had
any hope of Olympic glory. They pursued their sport on love and
faith, determined to be prepared for any opportunity to make a
career out of fighting. That opportunity arrives this week at the
first U.S. Olympic team trials for women’s boxing. Over the next
week at a casino outside Spokane, 24 fighters will compete for just
three spots and the chance to earn an Olympic berth at the world
championships.
