Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A Creswell couple have pleaded not guilty to
second-degree manslaughter in the death of their 16-year-old son.
The Lane County sheriff’s office contends Austin Sprout died Dec.
20 of an unspecified condition that doctors say could have been
treated. Sheriff’s officers say the boy’s mother and stepfather,
Brandi and Russell Bellew, relied instead on faith healing. About
30 supporters packed a Lane County Jail courtroom yesterday.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – The Medford murder trial of William Simmons
has gone to the jury. The 31-year-old Simmons is accused of killing
15-year-old Kaelin Glazier in 1996 when he was 16. Simmons was the
last known person to see the girl alive. Her skeletal remains were
found in 2008 just 80 feet from the trailer where Simmons lived at
the time of her disappearance. She was identified through dental
records and a ring. Simmons was charged in 2010 with murder. Jurors
were told they can also consider the lesser charge of manslaughter.

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – A soccer coach accused of sexually
abusing a 16-year-old Oregon girl he coached has been arraigned.
The Oregonian reports that 26-year-old Dean Powell of London,
England, is charged with three counts of second-degree sexual
abuse. Washington County sheriff’s detectives say the girl called
West Linn police to disclose sexual contact with her adult soccer
coach over the past two years. The Oregonian says Powell is a coach
with F.C. Portland Academy, which says the girl is not associated
with his club.

LOUISVILLE, KY. (AP) – SinFire Cinnamon Whiskey of Hood River is
pitched as a “sinful spirit.” Sazerac Inc. thinks it’s an idea
that’s sinfully close to its own brand of cinnamon flavored
alcohol, Fireball Whiskey. Sazerac has sued Hood River Distillers
in federal court in Louisville, asking a judge to declare that the
company violated its trademark in trying to sell the booze in the
United States.
