SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon House has voted to prohibit
government agencies from disclosing the names of people with
permits to carry concealed handguns. The House approved the measure
on a 44-14 vote yesterday, sending it to the Senate. The House has
twice before approved similar legislation that later died in the
Senate. A state appeals court has ruled that information about
applicants for concealed handguns is subject to disclosure under
the public records law.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The governor’s office and legislative
officials are pushing back against a memo warning of the potential
for multiple prison closures and hundreds of layoffs. New Oregon
Department of Corrections Director Colette Peters told corrections
staff in an email last week that 350 to 400 jobs were at risk. But
a spokesman for Gov. John Kitzhaber tells the Oregonian that the
memo does not reflect the governor’s recommendation.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Finance industry regulators say a Eugene
financial planner arrested last week on theft charges has left a
trail of victims. The Register-Guard reports they include an
81-year-old retiree, a church and the owner of a small
office-supply company. The disciplinary complaint was filed Tuesday
by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, an industry
self-policing organization. It says James Scott McKee improperly
used at least $650,000 of his customers’ money for his own benefit.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – A proposal to film a Mercedes-Benz commercial
in the Deschutes National Forest in Central Oregon has collapsed. A
location scout has blamed the U.S. Forest Service for dragging its
heels while the agency says the scout turned in skimpy paperwork,
according to The Bulletin newspaper in Bend yesterday. The idea was
to film a Mercedes-Benz sport utility vehicle driving through snow
on the Cascade Lakes Highway, with Mount Bachelor in the
background.
