Mountain West Basketball

The Mapleton Sailors kept their post-season hopes alive with a 54-43 win over Alsea last night in the Mountain West Boys League Playoffs.  Isaiah Holman-Gross led the Sailors with 23 points, 16 of them in the fourth quarter.  Mapleton will take on Lowell, at Lowell, tomorrow night.

Far West Boys

In Far West Boys’ Basketball last night… the South Umpqua Lancers downed the Siuslaw Vikings 62-45.  North Bend clinched the league crown with a 57-20 win over the Douglas Trojans; and Brookings-Harbor fell to Sutherlin 62-55.

Far West Girls

For the Girls, Nikki Parry had 21 points and the Siuslaw Vikings came from behind in the third quarter for a 55-39 win over South Umpqua.  Douglas edged North Bend 50-46 and Sutherlin nipped Brookings-Harbor 45-34.  The Vikings, Trojans and Bruins are knotted in a three-way tie for 2nd place with one game remaining in the regular season.  In the 2A, the Reedsport Braves wrapped up the regular season with a 49-29 loss to the Gold Beach Panthers.

The final games of the regular season will feature Brookings-Harbor at Douglas, Sutherlin at Siuslaw and South Umpqua at North Bend Friday night.

Siuslaw Golf

Spring sports are on the horizon and the Siuslaw Viking Golf Program is holding a benefit golf tournament on Saturday, February 25th at SandPines… The entry fee is $45 per golfer for the 9-hole, 4-player scramble.
