Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney
Amber Kinney says people who were arrested during Occupy Portland
demonstrations are crowding the court system. The Oregonian reports
that there are a large number of people seeking jury trials on
misdemeanor charges stemming from the protests. So far, the
district attorney’s office has handled nearly 200 Occupy Portland
cases.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police are investigating a suspicious
death in northwest Portland’s Pearl District. Police were called to
a high-rise early today on a report of a disturbance in an
apartment. They found a man dead inside. The Oregonian reports
homicide detectives are asking neighbors in the building if they
heard anything.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Starting in June, cars, ATVs and dirt
bikes will be banned from almost 4,000 miles of roads in Oregon’s
largest national forest. Officials hope that closing roads in the
Wallowa-Whitman National Forest helps preserve habitat for wildlife
and fish. The Oregonian reports the plan is drawing opposition from
people who depend on motor vehicles for hunting or other
activities.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Eugene police say a man was drunk when he
crashed his car into a rehab center less than two hours after
turning 21. The Register Guard reports that Damien Bittar was
arrested for investigation of drunken driving about 1:30 yesterday
morning, his 21st birthday. The director of Serenity Lane says
damage to the clinic was minor.
