ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — John Jaso had an RBI single with two outs in the ninth to cap a three-run rally off new Rangers closer Joe Nathan and give the Seattle Mariners a 4-3 win over the two-time defending American League champions. Jaso had a leadoff triple in the eighth and then scored Seattle’s first run on a single by Dustin Ackley. Justin Smoak led off the ninth with a single against Nathan before Kyle Seager’s double. Jesus Montero then had a sacrifice fly and Michael Saunders an RBI double.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Jamal Crawford scored a season-high 34 points, Wesley Matthews had two baskets in the final minute and the Portland Trail Blazers beat the Golden State Warriors 118-110 last night despite missing All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge. J.J. Hickson added 23 points and 13 rebounds, and Matthews had 18 points for Portland. Raymond Felton had 16 points and 10 assists. David Lee had 21 points and 14 rebounds for the Warriors, while Nate Robinson added 19 points and eight assists.

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Gonzaga basketball player Ryan Spangler has been granted his release and will seek a basketball program closer to his Oklahoma home. Spangler, a 6-foot-8 forward from Blanchard, Okla., appeared in 22 games off the bench this season. He averaged 2.5 points and 2.4 rebounds per game.
