PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say the president of the Clackamas County police union has been arrested for investigation of assault. Authorities say Sgt. Steve Hyson is accused of assaulting his 22-year-old stepson in Clark County in Washington state. The Oregonian reports that Hyson has weathered past domestic-violence allegations.

ASHLAND, Ore. (AP) – A new restaurant has opened in Oregon, where only medical marijuana cardholders can get in the door. The owners of the Earth Dragon Edibles Restaurant & Lounge in Ashland were hoping they had come up with a business plan that fit within the gray area of Oregon’s medical marijuana law. But the city of Ashland is denying them a business license, saying a city ordinance bars licenses for anyone violating state or federal law.

VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) – Vancouver police say they have arrested a 37-year-old man after woman was killed in a hit-run. Police say after the woman was struck last night, the suspect vehicle fled the scene but witnesses followed the car to a home where police arrested James I. Collins for investigation of vehicular homicide and took him to jail.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Another Oregon county hard hit by dwindling federal timber payments is considering asking voters to raise local taxes. Lane County officials say public sentiment is against a tax increase big enough to restore the major cuts planned in the budget. But the Register-Guard reports a committee of local officials is looking at the possibility of going to the voters in November with a modest increase to patch part of the budget.
