EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon State Police trooper arrested for causing a bomb scare in Mount Angel has resigned. Joseph Conklin pleaded guilty last week to resisting arrest as part of a plea deal in which his police certification was revoked. He was sentenced to five years of probation. The Register-Guard reports Conklin’s probation requires him to continue mental health treatment and stay away from alcohol and weapons.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – A 32-year-old Medford man has been indicted on a negligent homicide charge in the death of a 14-year-old Eagle Point girl who died after inhaling helium at party. Richard Mowery is accused of encouraging Ashley Long and other teens at a February party to inhale from the tank to make their voices sound funny. He was arrested Tuesday at his home.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A federal judge in Eugene has rejected a pre-trial release for a Cottage Grove caretaker accused of taking a man’s Social Security benefits for 16 years after he died. That means 46-year-old Carel June Cody will be held until her July 24 trial. The U.S. attorney’s office says she’s been linked to three other suspicious deaths of elderly men and has a history of neglecting patients and misusing their money.

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – The Washington County sheriff’s office says an inmate hanged himself with a piece of cloth in the jail at Hillsboro. The sheriff’s office say Mario Alfredo Bautista-Garcia of El Salvador was alone in his cell Tuesday when a deputy found him unconscious. He could not be revived and was declared dead at the scene. Bautista-Garcia was arrested May 15 when he was accused of stabbing two men at a bus shelter in Tigard.
