PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The accidental mixture of an acid and a caustic liquid at an Oregon dairy processor tank has sickened 11 people. Portland Fire & Rescue spokesman Paul Corah says none of the 11 people’s respiratory symptoms was believed to be life-threatening. The chemicals were mixed at a tank at West Farm Foods. Firefighters evacuated the plant of its workers yesterday morning.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A Salem man accused of providing the heroin that killed a Keizer woman has been jailed on $500,000 bail pending his next court appearance June 8. Christopher Wood was arraigned Tuesday in Marion County Circuit Court. The Statesman Journal reports the 19-year-old was one of eight people arrested in April in connection with the death of 21-year-old Laurin Putnam.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Search crews have found the wreckage of a small plane that crashed in southeast Oregon last week. Klamath County Sheriff Tim Evinger says the plane and the body of pilot Tony Nicholls were found yesterday afternoon on the west-facing side of Hart Mountain – 13 miles northeast of Plush. The 48-year-old pilot from Meridian, Idaho, flew his two stepsons to Lakeview, Ore., on Thursday and was to return home that day because his daughter was graduating from high school.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Police say an Oregon children’s book author who is visually impaired was crossing the street when a drunken driver struck him. The 70-year-old man, John Dashney, was in critical condition at Salem Hospital after the accident Tuesday a few blocks from his home. The Statesman Journal reports a 58-year-old Salem woman was arrested on drunken driving and assault charges.
