PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A pedestrian was struck and killed last night on a Portland street. Arriving police found him fatally injured. Police say the driver remained at the scene and was not speeding or under the influence.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The AAA auto club reports the average price of a gallon of gasoline in Oregon is $4.12, down 12 cents in a week and 58 cents higher than the national average. Some metro prices — Portland $4.10, Salem $4.06, Eugene-Springfield $4.07, Medford-Ashland $4.19.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Smartphones may someday help Oregon motorists compute how much state road maintenance tax the driver pays. Highway officials say they’re looking for ways to replace the gasoline tax and will begin a pilot program using smartphones help track mileage that could be reported to the government for a tax assessment. Officials say revenue is falling because cars such as the Toyota Prius burn little fuel.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Frank Cady, a character actor best known as the general-store owner on the sitcom “Green Acres,” has died at his home in Oregon at age 96. Cady’s daughter tells the Los Angeles Times that her father died Friday at his home in Wilsonville. A cause of death wasn’t released. Cady played Sam Drucker on “Green Acres” and the same character in “Petticoat Junction” and “The Beverly Hillbillies.”
