FLORENCE, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say a half dozen young people celebrating the Fourth of July along the Oregon coast poured gasoline into an underground tank before one tossed fireworks into it – and another boy’s face was severely burned in the explosion. The Eugene Register-Guard reports that the 14-year-old is in stable condition at the Oregon Burn Center in Portland.

DUNDEE, Ore. (AP) – Court records show an Oregon woman who was killed along with her two children on the Fourth of July had sought an order to keep her husband away from the kids because she considered him to be dangerous. Police say the husband, Randall Engels, shot Amy Engels and their two school-aged children at their Dundee home and then committed suicide.

LOWELL, Ore. (AP) – Lane County authorities say a man who slammed into a rock while jumping into Fall Creek Lake is dead. The Register-Guard says sheriff’s deputies were told the man failed to surface after jumping from a rock ledge about 25 feet above the water. Divers recovered his body yesterday morning. He wasn’t immediately identified pending notification of relatives.

ST. PAUL, Ore. (AP) – Two horses were injured and one had to be euthanized after colliding during a “wild horse race” at the St. Paul Rodeo in Oregon. Veterinarian Ben Wustenberg said the horse that was euthanized suffered neck and head trauma Wednesday. The second horse had muscle and tendon injuries in its shoulder and was sent back to its owner’s ranch to recover.
