PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland airport police say an Eagle Point man who was told he couldn’t carry a loaded gun through a security checkpoint disregarded the recommendation that he check the pistol through as luggage. They say the man dropped the gun in an airport planter box. The Oregonian reports that 69-year-old Soren Johnson was arrested for investigation of reckless endangering. Police say the man told them he hid the gun so he could retrieve it when he returned from his trip.

MILWAUKIE, Ore. (AP) – Authorities are investigating the death of a Portland-area woman as a homicide. Clackamas County sheriff’s deputies say the victim was 41-year-old Michelle Leigh Walker of Milwaukie. Her body was found Sunday after her mother reported what were described as “suspicious circumstances” at her daughter’s apartment. An autopsy has been completed but the sheriff’s office did not release the cause of death.

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – Fire officials in the Portland suburb of Hillsboro says a Bellevue, Wash. couple escaped injury when their small plane made a hard landing and skidded off the runway at Hillsboro Airport. The landing gear was badly damaged. The couple in their 50s were not identified.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) – A power planning group from Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington is seeking $2 million in federal aid to fend off invasive quagga and zebra mussels. The Northwest Power and Conservation Council fears boaters will inadvertently carry the mussels from Lake Mead and other Colorado River reservoirs. The group would like to see better inspection and decontamination of boats.
