Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police have made an arrest in a weekend attack on a woman who was walking on a trail in Portland’s Hoyt Arboretum. The woman screamed loudly and the man released her and fled. Other park users and later police searched for the man without success after Sunday’s attack. But yesterday the head of security at the nearby Oregon Zoo alerted park rangers to a tent in nearby woods. Police say they arrested its occupant Kenneth Couch in Sunday’s attack and for investigation of first-degree rape in another attack in Gresham.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Portland woman who said she was raped while hiking has pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of filing a false report. A judge yesterday sentenced 43-year-old Angela Gilbert to two years of probation, 80 hours of community service and mental-health and drug treatment. She must also pay $1,000 to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.

NEWBERG, Ore. (AP) – The Yamhill County sheriff’s office says two men found dead in a car submerged in water near Newberg appeared to have died from drowning, not from the impact of the crash. Deputies say Michael Randall and Solomon Davis were last seen leaving a house party early Saturday. Their bodies were not discovered until the following day. Deputies told The Oregonian that the soft-top convertible showed little damage from the accident that sent the car off a road and into an area where water pools from a backed-up culvert.

MILWAUKIE, Ore. (AP) – A 19-year-old man sprang into action when he spotted an elderly man lying on the ground next to a lawnmower at a home south of Portland. Gabe Shallouf was driving with his mother yesterday afternoon when he shouted at her to stop the car. He ran to the man, who wasn’t breathing and had no pulse. The teen immediately began CPR while his mother called 911. Fire officials say the elderly man was alert and talking to firefighters before he was taken to a hospital.
