Marion County deputies say Nicholi Zahler appeared stunned after diving into the water from a rock near the waterfall on Butte Creek yesterday afternoon. A bystander tried to help him but was pushed away, so the bystander assumed he was OK. The man’s girlfriend later noticed him missing. He was dead when he was pulled from the water.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – Two people were thrown into the water last evening when their inflatable raft went over Lava Island Falls, a treacherous stretch of water on the Deschutes River at Bend. Authorities say one person was found clinging to the bank and rescued by firefighters. The second person was found dead downstream. Both people were wearing floatation devices.

HAPPY VALLEY, Ore. (AP) – Clackamas County deputies are looking for a 33-year-old man suspected of shooting a woman and her daughter last night at their home at Happy Valley. Both were taken to Oregon Health & Science University Hospital in Portland.
