Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

RAINIER, Ore. (AP) – The Coast Guard is searching for a crewman who fell overboard from the Queen of the West sternwheeler while the boat was moored to a dock in the Columbia River at Rainier. Witnesses saw the man surface once off the stern before losing sight of him. Early today the Coast Guard responded with a boat and a helicopter.

ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) – State Police say they arrested a 79-year-old Monmouth man after a chase on Interstate 5 in southern Oregon that reached speeds of nearly 110 mph. As troopers tried to pull the car over, the driver increased his speed until the vehicle finally left the freeway, lost control and crashed into a ditch. William R. Barnes Sr. reportedly said he didn’t stop because he thought officers were chasing him on an unrelated matter. Troopers declined to discuss what that was.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police and fire crews checking out a report of a strong smell coming from a parked van in northwest Portland found a body inside. The medical examiner responded last evening and police are investigating.

ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) – The skeletal remains of a woman have been found in a rural area west of Roseburg. The Douglas County sheriff’s office says authorities learned of the discovery more than a month ago, and a search of the area on private property turned up clothing and other evidence. Deputies say it may take months to identify the remains using DNA.
