PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Commissioners at the Port of Portland have voted to pay as much as $4.7 million to a port container terminal operator to defray losses caused by recent labor problems. The Oregonian reports that commissioners called yesterday’s vote a business decision, saying ICTSI Oregon Inc.’s operation of Terminal 6 is vital for local business.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Humane Society says six severely malnourished horses that disappeared from a Rainier woman’s home last weekend have been located. The humane society was in the process of having the horses removed from owner Yvonne Byrd-Lynch when she and the horses disappeared. Humane Society officials say Byrd-Lynch came under scrutiny and was later cited for neglect in May when a horse was found dead on her property.
CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – A bat that was picked up by a group of Boy Scouts canoeing in the Willamette River has tested positive for rabies. Benton County health officials say the boys who touched the bat with their bare hands will be evaluated to determine whether they were exposed to rabies and need a vaccine. The Oregonian reports this is the second bat in Benton County, and the seventh in the state of Oregon, to test positive for rabies this year.
DAMASCUS, Ore. (AP) – A bicycle rider was critically injured in a collision with a van making a turn yesterday afternoon on Highway 212 in Damascus. Fire District paramedics stabilized the man for an airlift to Oregon Health & Science University Hospital in Portland. His injuries were described as life-threatening.
