GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – Residents of about 30 rural homes outside Lakeview have been advised to evacuate as the Barry Point fire continues to spread. Fire spokeswoman Renee Snyder said Tuesday that some residents have chosen to stay, complicating firefighting efforts as flames came within 100 yard of a mix of vacation and fulltime homes around Drews Reservoir.

THE DALLES, Ore. (AP) – Police in The Dalles say a 42-year-old man is expected to survive a wound from a gunshot fired by his wife, who then turned the gun on herself. The Dalles Chronicle says 46-year-old Carla Levden died in Saturday’s shooting, and her husband, Gerald, is hospitalized in Portland in serious condition. Police say there was no history of domestic violence.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – Two Medford men have been charged with attempted murder in a retaliatory attack on a roommate. The Medford Mail Tribune says 18-year-old Moses LaPorte and 19-year-old Christopher Garrett are charged in connection with the Saturday beating of 23-year-old Mark Alexander Tabor, who allegedly sexually assaulted two teenage girls. He was also arrested.

HERMISTON, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say the Umatilla (yoo-muh-TIHL’-ah) County Fair was shut down half an hour early last weekend after gang-related fights broke out. The fair’s security director tells the East Oregonian that authorities suspect a group came to the fair Saturday night with the intention of fighting. Authorities say fights started in four areas. Two people were arrested.
