BANDON, Ore. (AP) – Coos County authorities say a second man has died from wounds suffered in a shooting on U.S. 101 north of Bandon. State Police said last night that Milton Leach has died at a Portland hospital after the shooting Sunday night. Prosecutors say they plan to file aggravated murder charges today against Timothy Henson in the deaths of Leach and the first man who died in the shooting, George Micheaux III.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Marion County officials are trying to identify skeletal remains that were found Saturday in the woods of Santiam State Forest near Detroit Lake. Sheriff’s Lt. Tad Larson told KVAL the immediate area was closed, but Labor Day weekend campers and hikers were not turned away from recreation areas.

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – A hot muffler started a fire in wheat straw at a Washington County farm. Firefighters were dispatched yesterday afternoon to a home where a man was hosting a Labor Day party and having guests park in a recently harvested wheat field. The fire district says the fire started under one car and burned two other cars before it was brought under control.

ASHLAND, Ore. (AP) – Conservation groups have filed at least four lawsuits against the BLM in federal court in Medford over a half-dozen timber sales they say were not prepared in accordance with federal environmental policy. The Ashland Daily Tidings reports the latest complaint filed last week asks the court to block a timber sale near Ashland. Opponents say that timber sale threatens at-risk salmon populations. A BLM official says he is perplexed by the slew of lawsuits.
