CULVER, Ore. (AP) – A Klamath County sheriff’s boat equipped with side-scan sonar is expected to join the search today for a man presumed drowned after a skiing accident on Lake Billy Chinook in central Oregon. The Jefferson County sheriff tells KTVZ-TV that 73-year-old Eugene Harris and his 37-year-old son Mark Harris both died yesterday. Authorities say the son fell from his skis and the father turned the boat around, possibly hitting his son, then jumped in the water in an attempt to rescue him. A witness saw his head bob up before he sank.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Researchers from Oregon State University are helping test a way to generate energy from ocean waves off Newport. A wave energy buoy was moored last week two miles off Yaquina Head for a five-week test. It’s a $750,000 prototype owned by Northwest Energy Innovations. The Oregonian reports OSU scientists are gathering data on its potential impact on marine life.

BEAVERTON, Ore. (AP) – Police say an officer spotted a stolen Lexus about half an hour after a carjacking early today in Beaverton. Two men ran from the car. One was arrested at the scene and the other was tracked to an apartment and arrested. Police say the victim was leaving work just after midnight when he was confronted by a man with a gun.

TIGARD, Ore. (AP) – Heavy fire was coming from two second-story balconies when firefighters arrived at a burning apartment building about 1:30 this morning in Tigard. Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue says firefighters searched the building to make sure everyone got out safely. Four units were damaged and seven residents displaced.
