SEATTLE (AP) – The Seattle City Council has agreed to a deal that would build a $490 million arena that could host NBA and NHL teams. The King County Council previously approved the plan that calls for $200 million in public money. The City Council wanted investor Chris Hansen to address concerns about traffic congestion raised by the Port of Seattle and businesses south of downtown. The agreement announced by council members Tuesday creates a $40 million transportation infrastructure fund.

ATLANTA (AP) – Angel McCoughtry scored 23 points, Erika DeSouza had 20 and the Atlanta Dream pulled away late to beat the Seattle Storm 77-61 last night. Sancho Lyttle added 13 points and Armintie Price had 10 for the Dream, who have won five of their last six. Lauren Jackson had 14 points and nine rebounds and Camille Little added 13 points and eight boards for the Storm.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland Trail Blazers guard Elliott Williams will need surgery to repair a torn left Achilles tendon. No date for the surgery has been set. A timetable for his return will be established once he has the procedure. The Blazers say Williams tore the tendon yesterday during a voluntary workout at the team’s practice facility.

TORONTO (AP) – Kyle Seager homered and came within a triple of the cycle, Erasmo Ramirez pitched seven innings for his first major league win and the Seattle Mariners beat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-3 last night. Starting for the first time since June 30, Ramirez allowed two runs and six hits, setting down nine straight at one stretch. He walked one and struck out six.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Just two games into the season and No. 4 Oregon has already been dealt a blow with injuries to guard Carson York and free safety John Boyett, both fifth-year senior leaders. York hurt his right kneecap during Oregon’s 42-25 win over Fresno State last weekend. He told reporters that he would undergo surgery yesterday and that his season was over.
