Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

WEST LINN, Ore. (AP) – A West Linn couple who built a swimming pool on a wetland has been ordered to pay $72,000 in fines or remove the pool and pay an $18,000 fine. The Oregonian reports a municipal court judge issued the penalty yesterday against Troy and Gina Bundy. The judge earlier ruled they built the pool on their property without permits for a wetland. The Bundys said they were misled by city officials.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says a suspected drunk driver crashed his car into a school bus in a rural area south of Hillsboro. Two children and a driver were on the school bus, but they were not hurt in yesterday’s crash. Kyle Getsinger of Hillsboro was taken to a local hospital. His injuries were not life-threatening.

NEWBERG, Ore. (AP) – Newberg Animal Control killed a cat an hour-and-a-half after it was picked up and didn’t check its microchip until after it was dead. Phil and Joy White told KGW they can’t believe how their pet cat of 16 years was treated after it was found on Labor Day by a neighbor who called animal control because it was acting strangely. A shelter supervisor said the cat was very aggressive, as if it were diseased or injured. He said the employee couldn’t get close enough to the cat to check its microchip until after it was dead.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A new style license plate is available to Oregon drivers in October to help fund child abuse prevention. The Statesman Journal reports the plate shows silhouettes of two children in front of a heart. The $30 extra charge for the plate will provide revenue for the Children’s Trust Fund of Oregon, a nonprofit that works to prevent child abuse.
