PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland mayoral candidate Jefferson Smith was charged with assaulting a woman in a tussle at a party when he was a 20-year-old college student. The misdemeanor charge was dropped when he paid the woman’s medical bills and did community service. Smith acknowledged the Willamette Week report yesterday. The paper’s website said witnesses recalled the woman was tipped off a couch and charged at Smith in the mistaken belief he had done it.

COQUILLE, Ore. (AP) – Oregon authorities are investigating how a farmer was eaten by his hogs. The Coos County district attorney’s office says 70-year-old Terry Vance Garner never returned after he set out to feed his animals Wednesday on his farm near the Oregon coast. A family member later found Garner’s dentures and pieces of his body in the hog enclosure, but most of his remains had been consumed.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Eugene man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for trying to pimp a 15-year-old girl to an undercover sheriff’s deputy. U.S. District Judge Michael Simon sentenced Adam David Zimmer yesterday in Portland. Zimmer earlier pleaded guilty to sex trafficking a minor and employing a minor in drug operations. Federal prosecutors say Zimmer offered the girl last December at a cost of $500 per hour and described her as “super loaded” from eating psychedelic mushrooms.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say a collision that dumped 300 gallons of sewage waste on Interstate 5 in the Portland area also disrupted northbound traffic for more than three hours. Lt. Gregg Hastings says a large commercial truck collided with a sewage truck that had slowed for heavy traffic just after noon yesterday on I-5 near the Interstate 205 interchange.
