Local Sports – Prep Volleyball – Athlete of the Week

Taking a look at Coast Radio Sports…

The Siuslaw Vikings suffered their first Far West League loss last night on the volleyball court, falling in five games to the Sutherlin Bulldogs.  Siuslaw claimed game one, then gave up two straight before evening it in game four… the Bulldogs scrapped for a 15-8 win in the fifth and final game of the match.

Despite the loss, the Vikings remain a game ahead of Sutherlin and South Umpqua in first place.  In other league action last night, South Umpqua edged North Bend 3-2; Douglas beat Brookings-Harbor in three.

Athlete of the Week

Mapleton volleyball standout Liz Harry is Coast Radio Sports’ Athlete of the Week.  The senior hitter put together 21 kills, two aces and one stuff-block in two matches for the Sailors last week.  16 of those kills came in one non-league win over Oakridge.  Honorable Mention goes to Harry’s teammate Chelsea Simington.  The setter had a combined 45 assists in two matches.
