RENTON, Wash. (AP) – Richard Sherman says he has no regrets over the strong comments and messages from his Twitter account following the Seattle Seahawks’ victory over the New England Patriots on Sunday. The Seahawks cornerback said Tuesday that he was directed to remove a picture from his Twitter account that showed Sherman talking to Patriots quarterback Tom Brady after Seattle’s 24-23 win that included an added message ‘U Mad Bro?” But when asked if he regretted any of the attention that has come his way, Sherman said, “I don’t regret anything about the situation. It is what it is.”

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) – Patrick Willis had no chance last December to do his part in stopping Marshawn Lynch and helping keep San Francisco’s impressive streak alive: 36 straight games without allowing a 100-yard rusher. The All-Pro linebacker missed last season’s second meeting with the division rival Seattle Seahawks, sidelined for three games with an injured right hamstring. Lynch ran for 107 yards in the 49ers’ 19-17 win at Seattle on Dec. 24 – and now the Seahawks star comes to Candlestick Park for Thursday night’s NFC West showdown with a healthy Willis waiting on the other side of the ball.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Bringing the laid-back vibe of his Hawaiian home to the mainland, Marcus Mariota has kept his cool as starting quarterback for No. 2 Oregon. Despite a lack of experience, the 6-foot-4 redshirt freshman has helped guide the Ducks to a 6-0 start. Oregon ranks second nationally with an average of just over 52 points per game, and eighth with nearly 542 yards in total offense a game. On a team known much more for its rushing than it’s passing, Mariota has thrown for 15 touchdowns, second in the Pac-12 only to USC’s Matt Barkley, with only five interceptions. He averages about 218 passing yards a game.

SEATTLE (AP) – King County Executive Dow Constantine and Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn have signed legislation on the funding plan for construction of an arena that could be used to lure the NBA back to Seattle. The executives signed the deal on yesterday after a negotiated memorandum of understanding between the city, county and investor Chris Hansen was approved by the city and county councils a day earlier.

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – The new baseball team in Hillsboro will be known as the Hillsboro Hops. The club revealed the nickname yesterday via Facebook and Twitter. The minor league affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks recently moved to Hillsboro from Yakima, Wash., and will play in a 4,500-seat stadium that’s under construction. The relocation marks a return of professional baseball to the Portland area.
