The Register-Guard reports that Lane County sheriff’s deputies and Eugene police swarmed the area yesterday and found that no actual shots had been fired. They said an unidentified person had been firing a cap gun in an effort to scare a dog that was attacking a cat. Carver says the cat was killed.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Portland street entertainer who played his trumpet on the west side of the Hawthorne Bridge died last weekend. The state medical examiner’s office says it’s looking for relatives of 56-year-old Kirk Forrest Reeves. He was known for wearing a white jacket and Mickey Mouse ears as he played his trumpet and performed magic tricks for motorists.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police say there were no serious injuries when a wrong-way driver crashed on Highway 26 early today in Portland. Dispatchers had received multiple reports of an eastbound driver in the westbound lanes, and officers were on their way when the crash occurred about 4:40 a.m. near Washington Park. The driver appeared to be intoxicated and was arrested.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A man who escaped from the Douglas County Jail in a trash can has pleaded not guilty to charges related to crimes that occurred when he was on the lam.
