PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A fierce Oregon storm packing heavy rain and strong winds is blamed for the death of a Seattle elk hunter in Tillamook County and an injury to a police officer hit by a falling tree in the Portland area. In Clackamas County, a homeless woman and her dog were rescued by boat from a campsite surrounded by rising water. Pacific Power says the storm knocked out electricity to as many as 24,000 customers. By last night, about 8,000 were still in the dark, mainly in Clatsop, Lincoln and Coos counties. KTVZ-TV in Bend says winds of up to 60 mph downed trees, branches and power lines in Central Oregon.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A minor earthquake with a 3.1 magnitude was recorded yesterday morning in the Portland region. The Pacific Northwest Seismic Network reports the quake at 6:15 a.m. was centered about 11 miles northwest of Portland at a depth of 12 miles. It was felt in in the outlying towns Scappoose, Oregon City and Woodburn in Oregon. There were no reports of damage.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say courthouses in 17 Oregon counties have received bomb threats following similar incidents recently in other states. Oregon State Police officials they don’t know of any suspicious packages found following the threats yesterday, and the State Police bomb squad did not respond. Authorities say about eight bomb threats were reported in Washington on Nov. 15 and about nine were reported in Nebraska on Nov. 2.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – More than 50 people have told the Eugene City Council how they feel about a proposed city crackdown on rowdy parties. The Register-Guard reports that long-term residents of neighborhoods around the University of Oregon and even some students told councilors at last night’s hearing that they support the “social host ordinance.” It’s aimed at making party organizers accountable when gatherings get out of hand. Fines could range from about $200 up to $1,000.
