BEND, Ore. (AP) – The teacher’s union in the Bend-La Pine school district is opposing a proposal that would give bonuses to educators based on students’ test scores. Bend Education Association President Mark Molner says teachers believe incentives for student test scores aren’t an effective way to improve teaching. The proposal is for nine schools that are ineligible for a federal bonus program.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Police say there are no obvious signs of injury on a body discovered in a water-filled ditch along a highway outside Salem. The man has been identified, but police are withholding the name until his next of kin can be notified. An autopsy is tentatively scheduled for today.

ALBANY, Ore. (AP) – The former principal of Central Linn High School has pleaded no contest to a charge of second-degree sex abuse. The Albany Democrat-Herald reports Michael Bremont was sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years’ supervised probation on the case involving improper contact with a 17-year-old student. He’s scheduled to be sentenced later this month on similar charges with a different student in Deschutes County.

PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) – Researchers have found that Oregon wolves from different packs are breeding – signaling that necessary genetic interchange is taking place. The East Oregonian reports the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife made the discovery by analyzing scat from Wenaha pups. There are now six packs in eight different areas of the state.
