EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Officials in Eugene say a 28-foot-long segment of concrete wall has collapsed into Amazon Creek, prompting the closure of a section of a shared-use path while repairs are made. The Register-Guard reports the section of path will be closed through today. Officials say the 50-year-old wall section collapsed Saturday after several days of heavy rain.

TIGARD, Ore. (AP) – A fire department spokesman says smoke from a malfunctioning heating and ventilation unit prompted the evacuation of about 65 residents and 15 employees from a senior care facility in the Portland suburb of Tigard. The Oregonian reports that no injuries or flames were reported. A Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue spokesman says smoke was reported at about 5:20 p.m. yesterday in one wing of Pacific Health and Rehabilitation.

UNDATED (AP) – Longshore workers say they don’t want to strike grain terminals in the Northwest, and want to continue contract talks with terminal owners beyond a deadline of tomorrow. International Longshore and Warehouse Union spokeswoman Jennifer Sargent said yesterday that they have proposed additional dates for talks to the Pacific Northwest Grain Handlers Association, which represents the owners of six grain terminals along the Columbia River and in Puget Sound in contract talks.
