SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Marion County authorities are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found at a south Salem house where a shooting was reported. A man at the house was detained for questioning after yesterday’s shooting.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – An autopsy determined the man whose body was found in a ditch near Salem on Thanksgiving Day died of a medical emergency, probably a heart attack. Oregon State Police say the man found along Highway 99E has been identified as 61-year-old Frank Thomas Horner, of Salem.

CAVE JUNCTION, Ore. (AP) – An official says a Cave Junction City Council candidate initially thought to have been disqualified from winning a write-in election with 7 out of 62 votes cast could wind up in the position. The council will determine if John Gardner is registered and has been a city resident for a year.

HELENA, Mont. (AP) – Attorneys representing hundreds of thousands of American Indians say they should start seeing the first payments of a $3.4 billion settlement with the U.S. government by year’s end. The deal for more than a century’s worth of squandered and mismanaged land trust royalties became final on Friday.
