Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

BLUE RIVER, Ore. (AP) – Some school lunchroom cooks in Oregon say a new federal law designed to get young people to eat better is having unintended consequences. Cooks are spending more time on the paperwork that reports the nutritional content of their meals and less time preparing lunches. A state education official says districts are also unhappy about the requirement that students get at least half a cup of fruits or vegetables, even if they don’t want them. That means paying for the food and for disposing of it.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Eugene police say a 9-year-old girl reported that a strange man approached her and grabbed her arm as she stood at a drinking water fountain at her school. The girl says she was able to escape and the man ran off. The Register-Guard says incident yesterday at Eugene Corridor Elementary School came less than four weeks after another student who attends school at the same north Eugene campus reported a similar incident.

NORTH BEND, Ore. (AP) – Fire has destroyed a hangar at Southwest Oregon Regional Airport in North Bend. Firefighters say the building was engulfed in flames and collapsed about 1:00 this morning. KVAL reports embers flew across the airport in high winds, but firefighters prevented the fire from spreading. No injuries reported.

UNDATED (AP) — A Michigan nurseryman and his team of tree climbers and horticulturists have cloned the world’s biggest redwoods and giant sequoias, including some cut down more than a century ago. Starting today, they plan to start planting 250 of them – all gathered in California – on a ranch near Port Orford on the southern Oregon Coast.
