PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – ODOT says drivers should use TripCheck to plan their routes on coastal highways High water on Highway 101 south of Seaside today is restricting traffic to trucks. Drivers heading for Seaside and Astoria are advised to use Highway 30. Landslides are also slowing traffic in other areas along Highway 101.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The teen awaiting trial on a murder charge in the 2011 killing of a 14-year-old Portland girl is facing a new assault charge. Officials say Parrish Bennette Jr. refused to go back to his cell Sunday night and attacked a guard. The guard was not hurt. KATU reports Bennette is charged with assaulting a corrections officer. Bennette is accused of killing Yashanee Vaughn when he was 16.

TILLAMOOK, Ore. (AP) – Police say a pupil on an end-of-the-year field trip to see “The Hobbit” at a Tillamook movie theater found a loaded handgun on the floor beneath a seat. Police Chief Terry Wright says the gun found yesterday was a small, semi-automatic weapon with a round in the chamber and the safety off. Wright says he and his officers don’t think that the weapon was brought by a student or that it had been stashed.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Portland police union is trying to block an agreement with the Justice Department to reform training and use-of-force policies. The Oregonian reports a lawyer for the Portland Police Association filed a motion in federal court to intervene in the settlement agreement the federal government filed Monday. The union argues the changes undermine collective bargaining rights.
