OAKRIDGE, Ore. (AP) – A 10-vehicle pileup closed Willamette Pass for four hours last night on Highway 58 east of Oakridge. State Police say it started when a semi stalled in the snow. Two other trucks lost traction and slid into the stalled truck. Then seven passenger cars slid out of control and became stuck in the snow.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The father of an 11-year-old boy accused of an attempted carjacking in Portland has been charged in federal court with being a felon in possession of a firearm. The Oregonian reports the charge carries a maximum 10-year sentence, compared to a 5-year sentence Joseph Charlton could face if convicted in state court. The 11-year-old is accused of taking his loaded Derringer on Dec. 8. Police say the boy and a 7-year-old accomplice threatened a woman sitting in her vehicle in a church parking lot. She left unharmed.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A man who worked at an Aumsville church has been sentenced to more than four years behind bars for setting up a camera in the women’s restroom and having child pornography on his computer. Christopher Fowler pleaded guilty Dec. 4 to 10 counts of encouraging child sex abuse and privacy invasion. Fowler was employed by the Bethel Baptist Church as both a youth leader and janitor.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A man accused of the shooting a 19-year-old to death last May in Woodburn has changed his plea. The Statesman Journal reports 20-year-old Erasmo Emilio Lopez, Jr. pleaded no contest and will be sentenced Feb. 15. Co-defendant Javier Ivan Sanchez-Perez goes on trial Jan. 17 in Salem on murder and attempted murder charges in the death of Tomas Montez-Sanchez.
