CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – The Benton County sheriff’s office says an 89-year-old woman was struck and killed while crossing a road to pick up mail from her mail box. The woman, Hannelore Zimmerman, was dead when emergency crews arrived at the home south of Corvallis yesterday.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Portland church group has asked to intervene in the federal Justice Department’s agreement with city police to reform training and use-of-force policies. The Oregonian says the Albina Ministerial Alliance argues that the agreement fails to address concerns about police use of force against people of color. It also takes issue with Taser use regulations and oversight procedures once an agreement is signed.
BORING, Ore. (AP) – A Clackamas County sheriff’s police dog tracked down a driver who ran away after crashing into a utility pole on Highway 224 near Boring. State Police say the man left an injured woman yesterday afternoon trapped in the car. The Oregon City man was found after a two-hour search and is charged with DUI, reckless driving and hit-and-run. The woman was treated and released at Mount Hood Medical Center.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A bear that weighs more than 200 pounds is missing, and it’s not in hibernation. The sheriff’s office in Washington County says the wooden statue of a bear was stolen from a home in Portland during the weekend. The homeowner bought the 5-foot-tall statue in 1996 for $1,700 and had it displayed in the front yard for many years.
