SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The legislative tie that fostered a relatively collegial and bipartisan spirit in Salem for the past two years is coming to an end. The 77th Legislature will convene for the first time with a more liberal House and a more conservative Senate. Democratic Gov. John Kitzhaber also will deliver his annual state of the state address to a joint session of the House and Senate.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Triple-A reports the average price of gasoline in Oregon is $3.34. That’s down 4 cents in the past week, but a penny higher than a month ago. It’s 4 cents higher than the national average. Some metro prices — Portland $3.32, Salem $3.34, Eugene-Springfield $3.36, Medford-Ashland $3.35.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Parking at Oregon State University just got easier for drivers with disabilities and smartphones. The Corvallis Gazette-Times says people who have permits to park in spaces reserved for those with disabilities can use their smartphones to locate open spots. Sensors were recently imbedded in the pavement of 75 spaces around 30 buildings at the center of campus.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The University of Oregon says it has booked the Dalai Lama to deliver a lecture at Matthew Knight Arena on May 10. The Register-Guard says it will be the first time the world-renowned peace advocate and Buddhist monk has visited Eugene. His visit to Oregon will include several events in the Portland area.
