PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Portland police detective has been placed in an off-street assignment while he’s investigated for a drunken driving arrest at Government Camp. The Clackamas County sheriff’s office says 50-year-old Darrell Miller provided a breath sample with a .09 percent blood alcohol content early Sunday after he was stopped by a deputy. The sheriff’s office says Miller was polite and cooperative as he was cited and released.
HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – A Hillsboro police officer accused of wounding a Washington County sheriff’s deputy during a shootout has resigned. Timothy Cannon had been on unpaid leave for the investigation of the Jan. 20 shooting at his home in Forest Grove. KGW reports the 13-year veteran resigned three days later. The deputy suffered a hand wound from bullet shrapnel, but it’s not clear if Cannon fired the shot. Ten officers from three agencies fired their weapons and were placed on paid leave after the shooting. They had responded to a report of domestic violence at Cannon’s home.
CLACKAMAS, Ore. (AP) – The Clackamas County sheriff’s office says a robber held up a bank by threatening a customer with a knife. Deputies say the man held a large knife to a woman’s throat yesterday afternoon and demanded cash from the teller at a Keybank branch in Clackamas. The woman was not hurt. The suspect got away with the money.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The father of an Oregon terrorism suspect says his then-teenage son was suffering an identity crisis and enduring a troubled home life when the FBI “brainwashed” him. Osman Barre (OHS’-man BAR’-ee), the father of Somali-American terrorism suspect Mohamed Mohamud, testified yesterday that he was concerned for his son’s safety when he contacted the FBI in 2009. He says contemporary news accounts of Somali-American teenagers joining the mujahedeen in Somalia led him to contact the FBI and say he feared his son was being brainwashed by al-Qaida recruiters.
