GRESHAM, Ore. (AP) – A man says he was shot by a robber who took his backpack last night in Gresham. The victim was able to walk into the Mt. Hood Medical Center emergency room with a bullet wound in his shoulder. The 30-year-old Happy Valley man says he was robbed and shot while walking by North Gresham Park. Police say detectives have yet to determine whether the shooting was random.

LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) – Police were ready for a suspicious Amtrak passenger from Oregon when he arrived at the train station in La Crosse, Wisc. Authorities in Portland alerted local police that the 25-year-old Boscobel man was acting suspiciously and traveling to La Crosse. Police searched the man’s bags with the help of a drug-sniffing dog and found about $30,000 worth of marijuana. The man is due in court today.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Gov. John Kitzhaber has released his $242 million priority list for higher education construction projects. The governor said the list developed with college and university officials will help ensure there is sufficient capacity to meet the state’s 40-40-20 goal by 2025. The goal is for 40 percent of adult Oregonians to hold a bachelor’s or advanced degree, 40 percent to have an associate’s degree or postsecondary certificate, and everyone else to have at least graduated high school.

RENO, Nev. (AP) – Stewie the Cat, the longest domestic cat in the world at more than 4 feet long from nose to tail, has died in Nevada. His owner says Stewie — born in Oregon — was surrounded by family when he died after yearlong battle with cancer Monday evening at his Reno home. The Maine Coon cat was a certified therapy animal that frequently visited a Reno senior center and helped promote animal welfare awareness with the Nevada Humane Society. Stewie came from a breeder in Hermiston in 2005. Last month, he attended the International Cat Show in Portland.
