PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A van struck a pedestrian in southeast Portland about 5:30 this morning and left the victim in the street with fatal injuries. Police are looking for a white box van with a roof rack and significant front end damage including broken glass. It was last seen westbound on Holgate.

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – A Bethany man was arrested on suspicion of rape 10 days after he had been released from jail. The Washington County sheriff’s office says 28-year-old Yusuf Dahir Sheikh-Nur is a known sex offender who has been jailed seven times since May 2011. KATU reports he had been jailed on a harassment charge and bailed out Feb. 1. On Monday he was accused of refusing to let a woman leave his apartment and assaulting her. He’s now held on $2.4 million bail.

DENVER (AP) — Union leaders representing CenturyLink workers in 13 Western states have moved closer to allowing a strike but plan to continue negotiations with the telecommunications company. The Communication Workers of America said today that its executive board has authorized the union’s president to set a strike date, which would be the final step in going on strike. A union spokesman says nothing is imminent and the union still hopes to reach a good contract for 13,000 employees.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Port of Portland commissioners have approved another subsidy for the terminal operator to help save the ocean shipping business during a union dispute. Commissioners authorized as much as $3.7 million in rent rebates to ICTSI Oregon Inc., which operates the port’s international container terminal. The Oregonian reports the latest subsidy follows a $1 million incentive approved last month and could total the amount of rental income the port receives from the company.
