ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) – Emergency dispatchers in Astoria are tired of answering calls from the 1-year-old daughter of Jessica May. The toddler dialed 911 a total of seven times last Thursday and nine other times before that, dating back to January. May told KGW she was in the bathroom Thursday when her daughter Ayla found her phone. After the sixth call, an officer gave May a warning. But when it happened again, she was cited for abusing 911. If convicted, she could face up to a year in jail and a $6,000 fine.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Vancouver man has pleaded no contest in Multnomah County Circuit Court to a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm for carrying a rifle on Portland’s Burnside Bridge. The Oregonian reports 30-year-old Anthony J. Quayle was one of 13 bearded men wearing military style clothing who were questioned by police last August after someone reported seeing the rifle. The men were crossing the bridge for a “Beards for Breasts” calendar to raise money for cancer research.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say a 50-year-old convict eligible for release instead skipped out on an appointment at a halfway house and robbed a bank last week before Portland police officers shot him to death. The man was identified yesterday as Merle Mikal Hatch. Police killed him Sunday after he showed up at Portland Adventist Medical Center with a handgun and threatened an employee. Hatch had been serving prison time in Sheridan for a Colorado bank robbery.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – Police in Medford say they’ve arrested a transient accused of firing a .44-caliber black powder revolver at young people walking on a bike path, causing minor injuries to two of them. Police say 53-year-old Joseph Matejko was arrested for investigation of attempted murder and second-degree assault. Police say an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old woman reported they were walking yesterday with a friend when they encountered the man, who had threatened them.
