BEND, Ore. (AP) – Authorities in Bend are investigating a series of suspicious fires that broke out at churches and homes early this morning. KTVZ reports police were tracking footprints in the snow in a hunt for possible suspects. There were reports of fires at or near three churches. No injuries were reported.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The 12-year-old girl who was burned in her hospital room in Portland hospital says the last thing she remembers before the fire was rubbing her hands on her bed sheets to create static electricity. The Oregonian reports that the fire at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital was apparently ignited by hand sanitizer and olive oil.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – State Sen. Ginny Burdick says she canceled a town hall meeting on gun control at Portland State University because her office has received thousands of hostile or threatening emails about anti-gun legislation. She told KATU she did not want to have the town hall crashed by disruptive and rude gun extremists.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – A Medford-area couple has reached a plea agreement in connection with the death of a 14-year-old girl who died after inhaling helium at a party. The Mail Tribune reports that Katherine McAloon and Richard Mowery dropped their not guilty pleas. They were charged with providing alcohol and marijuana for the teen party.
