PORT HURON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) – An Oregon woman has been charged after the body of her 89-year-old mother was found behind a Michigan thrift store. Police in Michigan say that 49-year-old Kelly Rhodes of Salem is jailed in Illinois, where she was arrested on a warrant charging her with improperly disposing of a body.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – A Bend garbageman was slightly injured when a bottle bomb exploded as he was about to put it in a recycling bin. KTVZ reports the state bomb squad was called out to dispose of two similar bombs found nearby. Police say the worker didn’t require medical attention.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Retired state workers would see a cut in their pension benefits under legislation approved by a state Senate committee. Lawmakers say the cuts will be painful for retirees but they’re necessary to restore the pension system’s financial health. Dozens of workers and retirees packed committee hearings earlier this week.

HELENA, Mont. (AP) – An Oregon timber company has agreed to pay $131,000 to a wood stove replacement program under a settlement that resolves air pollution violations alleged by Montana regulators. The Montana Department of Environmental Protection says the payment by Roseburg Forest Products will go to the Missoula County Seeley Lake Wood Stove Change-Out Program.
