Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

BEND, Ore. (AP) – A mid-April snowstorm caught some people off guard in central Oregon. KTVZ-TV says that Downtown Bend Business Association president Chuck Arnold reported he wore his dress shoes to work yesterday, not expecting snow. The station reports that nearly six inches of snow fell in Sisters. By midday yesterday, the snow was also piling up in downtown Bend.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Legislature is looking at a sales tax as part of a proposal to overhaul Oregon’s volatile taxation system. The Senate Finance and Revenue Committee yesterday discussed a resolution asking voters to create a 5 percent tax on goods and services. A sales tax would be accompanied by a cut in income taxes and other revenue. Oregon voters have rejected sales taxes nine times.

GLADSTONE, Ore. (AP) – Gladstone police say officers were forced to shoot a pit bull that charged them when they arrived at a mobile home park yesterday afternoon, responding to a report of an aggressive dog. The dog ran off but was located last night and treated at an animal hospital for minor injuries. Police are talking with the owners.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A feral cat colony at a community college campus in Salem will be allowed to remain, with volunteers handling the cats’ care and feeding. The Statesman Journal reports that Chemeketa Community College officials recently reached agreement with a group called Salem Friends of Felines. Now the cats will be transitioned to a new wooded area on campus farther away from buildings. The group says for now the focus is on the basics: feeding the cats, providing them with water and making sure they are spayed and neutered.
