Siuslaw held off a seventh inning North Bend Rally and held on for a 7-4 Far West League baseball victory on the road last night.  Jake Thompson scattered five hits and 13 strikeouts over the complete game for the win.  The Vikings put up nine hits in all, including two from Josh Iabichello and a Ryan Smith double.  The win brings the Vikings to within half a game of league leading North Bend at the mid point of the season.  Sutherlin beat Brookings-Harbor 6-3 last night, South Umpqua edged Douglas 10-8.

On the softball diamond, the Bulldogs broke open a tie ball game with four runs in the fifth and added five more in the sixth for a 14-6 Far West win over the Vikings at Siuslaw.  Lacey deSantis was two-for-three at the plate; Sadie Wells was hitless, but picked up two RBI on three sacrifices plus scored one run.

.   South Umpqua downed Douglas 7-4; Brookings Harbor got by Sutherlin 4-3.

Track and Field

Mapleton’s Chris Free was 2nd in the 800 meters and Tucker Ford finished in the top five in the 15-hundred, three-thousand and High Jump at the Glide Small Schools Track and Field meet yesterday.  Chelsea Simington was fourth in the 300 meter hurdles, fifth in the long jump.  Liz Harry threw the javelin 95-feet; 7-inches for 3rd place and Taysie Savage was fifth in the triple-jump at 26-feet; 6-inches.

Number 13 Oregon broke a 3-3 tie off the bat of Tyler Baumgartner and a three-run home run, then Shaun Chase immediately followed it with a solo-shot of his own and the Ducks rallied for an 11-7 non-conference win over the Pilots in Portland.  The Ducks will host number 21 Stanford this weekend for three games… number seven Oregon State will host USC.
