EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A Cottage Grove woman is pleading guilty to charges that she buried the body of a man who was under her care, and continued to collect his Social Security benefits for 15 years. The Register-Guard reports that 47-year-old Carel Cody was not charged in the 1996 death of John Arnold, who was in his mid-70s.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) -Gov. John Kitzhaber has signed a bill cutting pension benefits for some retired government workers. The measure would limit inflation increases for retirees earning more than $20,000 a year. The governor has called the bill a good first step, but he’s pushed for even steeper cuts to retirement benefits.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Three people were injured in a crash involving a car that sped away from a traffic stop in northeast Portland last night. The 32-year-old driver of the car was tracked down by a police dog and arrested.

LAPINE, Ore. (AP) – A Washington state man has a hefty speeding ticket to pay after getting clocked at 130 mph on his new motorcycle in central Oregon. Sixty-one-year-old Gregory Zaser told the trooper who pulled him over yesterday that he’d just purchased the Ducati bike. The ticket cost him over $1,100.
