AP () – – A Seattle man trying to dribble a soccer ball 10,000 miles to Brazil in time for the 2014 World Cup has died after being hit by a pickup truck on the Oregon Coast. Police in Lincoln City say 42-year-old Richard Swanson was hit yesterday morning while walking south along U.S. Highway 101 near the city limits. He was declared dead at a hospital. The driver has not been charged.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – A federal judge has dismissed a movie company’s Internet piracy complaint against 34 Oregonians. The (Medford) Mail Tribune reports the suit involves the 2012 movie “Maximum Conviction” starring Steven Seagal. The company, Voltage Pictures, alleged that the defendants were among hundreds across the state who participated in copyright infringement.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon House has voted to extend a tax on hospitals and nursing homes that provides a big portion of the state budget for health care. The measure would extend a tax on hospital revenue for two more years. The tax revenue is ultimately returned to hospitals, but it generates federal matching funds that help pay for the Oregon Health Plan.

COQUILLE, Ore. (AP) – Coos County officials say there’s a roughly $3 million gap between expected resources for the coming fiscal year and proposed expenditures. The World newspaper reports that members of the county budget committee plan to start work on closing that gap next week. Proposed expenditures total $22.9 million; the county expects $19.8 million in revenue.
