State Track and Field Meet

Mapleton’s Madison Frelich made it to the finals in the 1A girls’ long jump competition at the first day of the OSAA State Track and Field meet in Eugene.  Frelich jumped 13-feet; 9-inches to finish in tenth overall.

There are 15 Siuslaw Vikings at the meet competing in several different events.  Matthew Campbell, Mack Marbas and Mitchell Butler all qualified for the 3-thousand at last week’s Far West Meet…. Campbell and Marbas are in the 15-hundred.  Billy Jones will be in the long and triple jumps.  Hayden Schaffner will defend his state title in the 800.  He also qualified for the 400 meters.

For the girls, Katy Potter will run the 15 and the three-thousand.  Stevie Miller and Alex Dodson will run the 100-meter hurdles and Ashlee Cole will be in the javelin.

Also competing… Seth Campbell, Brian Schofield, Kennedy Pendergrass and Katy Wells.

On the diamond…

Oregon Softball is hosting Nebraska for three games in one of the NCAA Super Regionals.  Oregon won the Pac-12 Championship and has not lost a home game since last season… They’re 19-and-oh at home this year alone.  The winner advances to the College Softball World Series in Oklahoma City next week.

It’s the final weekend of Pac-12 baseball.  Oregon State is at the top of the standings, two games ahead of 2nd place Oregon and UCLA.  The Beavers will be at Goss Field against Washington State for three games beginning today.   The Ducks are on the road in Salt Lake where they’ll face Utah.
