JEFFERSON, Ore. (AP) – A Jefferson man is dead and two others injured after their car flew into a power pole, cutting the vehicle in half. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office says all three 19-year-olds were in the Honda Civic going between 90 and 100 mph down a road the passengers called “roller-coaster hill.” The driver, Nicolas J. Jolly, died at the scene while the other men have minor to serious injuries.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland police are investigating whether two separate shooting incidents are related. Authorities say that at about 1:40 a.m. yesterday, officers responded downtown to a man with a gunshot to the abdomen. About 15 minutes later, a different man arrived at Portland Adventist Medical Center with a gunshot wound.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon group is pushing city officials to put anti-suicide barriers on an arch bridge that has been the site of three suicides already this year. Leaders are receptive to the idea of a security barrier, but the projected $2.5 million price tag is steep for a city that’s been tackling a $20 million budget shortfall.

REDMOND, Ore. (AP) – Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies say a Vancouver, Wash., man was badly hurt in an all-terrain vehicle crash south of Redmond, but two other riders – including a 5-year-old girl – escaped serious injuries. KTVZ-TV reports that deputies were dispatched to the crash scene shortly before 8:30 p.m. Saturday. They found 54-year-old Bradley Wegner, who was flown to a Bend hospital with serious injuries.
