Here is the latest Washington, Oregon and Alaska sports news from The Associated Press

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) – Alberto Callaspo brought home the tiebreaking run with two outs in the eighth inning, and the Los Angeles Angels rallied from an early deficit for a 10-9 victory over the Seattle Mariners last night. Mike Trout matched his season high with four hits for the Angels. Kyle Seager drove in the tiebreaking run in the eighth during a gut-wrenching loss for the Mariners, who couldn’t protect a huge lead even with Felix Hernandez on the mound.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) – Desmond Trufant and Robert Alford aren’t having an easy time learning how to play cornerback in the NFL. That’s just fine with Atlanta Falcons coach Mike Smith, who’s been watching the rookies try to defend Roddy White and Julio Jones during a mandatory three-day mini-camp. Trufant, a first-round draft pick from Washington, is challenging right cornerback Robert McClain for the starting job.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland Thorns midfielder Becky Edwards will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee. Edwards suffered the injury while training in Portland last week. She tweeted yesterday that the surgery went well and she’s on the road to recovery.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) – A clogged pipe is to blame for a sewage backup at the Oakland A’s stadium over the weekend that created a stink in the clubhouses used by the A’s, the visiting Seattle Mariners and the umpires. The Oakland Tribune reports that officials found an unidentifiable mass in a sewer line. An A’s spokesman says everything is expected to be in order for the A’s next home game on Tuesday.

IRVING, Texas (AP) – The Dallas Cowboys have released defensive end Anthony Hargrove, a little more than a month after signing the nine-year NFL veteran to a one-year deal. The Cowboys announced Hargrove’s release yesterday. Hargrove, who was with Seattle the season before the New Orleans Saints’ bounty scandal broke, sat out the 2012 season as part of a suspension.
