SEATTLE (AP) – Alfonso Soriano and former Oregon State Beaver Darwin Barney each doubled twice and the Chicago Cubs built a six-run lead before holding off the Seattle Mariners 7-6. Anthony Rizzo drove in two runs and the Cubs tied a season high by hitting six doubles. Jason Bay homered for the Mariners and Brad Miller doubled twice for his first major league hits.

SEATTLE (AP) – The Baltimore Orioles have traded infielder Ty Kelly to the Seattle Mariners for outfielder Eric Thames in a minor league deal. The 26-year-old Thames hit .295 with seven home runs and 33 RBIs at Triple-A Tacoma. He is on the disabled list with a cut on his left wrist. The 24-year-old Kelly will report to Tacoma.

SEATTLE (AP) – Chicago Cubs outfielder Ryan Sweeney will be placed on the disabled list after breaking a rib on his left side crashing into an outfield wall in a game Saturday in Seattle. Chicago said Sweeney will be held out of baseball activities for four-to-six weeks. Sweeney was injured in the third inning when he jumped and caught a fly ball by Kendrys Morales.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Tamika Catchings scored 18 points and the defending champion Indiana Fever pulled away in the fourth quarter and beat the Seattle Storm 71-63 last night. Shekinna Stricklen scored 11 points for the Storm while Tina Thompson added nine. Seattle has lost three in a row.
